My cat was arrested

My cat, Ricky, was arrested yesterday. Arrested!!
I didn't even know cats could get arrested. My indoor cat, who has never been outside before, somehow escaped. I got a call at work because like a responsible pet owner, she has a microchip.
While bailing my cat out of the pound, I was able to get some minimal information as to how they got her. They claim that Ricky entered someone's house through their doggy door. Allegedly, Ricky had entered their house four times before. Ridiculous! I shouted. Ricky is an indoor cat and she doesn't go outside. Officer Idiot has the audacity to respond, "Well clearly she does go outside because we found her in someone's house." It took a lot for me not to reach through the stupid hole in the privacy window and hit her.

While waiting for my citation, which was written on a legit arrest report, I read as much as I could from the intake report that sat on the other side of the glass. Ricky was found on the same block that I live on. Now, I'm wondering which one of my neighbors called Animal Control and lied about my cat constantly roaming the streets. I go through as many scenarios as a person can while waiting and waiting for Officer Idiot to write up the damn citation. When she did, it was not what I expected.

At large
That's what the charge was for. Ricky was "at large". WTF!! She's a cat, not a mountain lion!!🦁 Bail for an at large cat is $500!! What the hell is going on? I tried to convince Officer Idiot once again that she is an indoor cat and there is some sort of mistake. But she continued to look at me like a lying criminal. At this point, I'm tired, exhausted and just want to go home. "Go get my cat." This is the only revenge I got that day. Ricky, probably as irritated as I was, attacked Officer Idiot. It's not quite worth the price I have to pay, but at least it's something.

After getting home, I was able to piece the puzzle together. My husband (not shocked) is responsible for letting Ricky get out. My next-door neighbor (still not shocked) is responsible for calling Animal Control. Here's what happened:

At approximately 11:20 am, my husband had just gotten home from a 44-mile bike ride. He opened the back door for the dogs to go out and go potty. Ricky must have taken the opportunity to escape.

The neighbor said she followed her dog in through the doggy door. Ricky played with the dog for a little while. Then, she got temperamental😼. Ricky started hissing at the dog so they put her outside. But Ricky didn't want to be outside, so she went back in. She did this 5 times. They tried to put her out front but she sat there and cried 😿. This is when the neighbor got concerned and called Animal Control at 12:02 pm.

Our neighbor was unaware that we owned a cat. She was very apologetic when she found out it was our cat that she encountered. She offered to pay the fine, write a letter, and attend court with me. I won't let her pay the fine, but maybe if we can explain the misunderstanding to the judge on my appointed court date, all of the charges will get dropped.

Heads up - your cat IS a wild animal and will be arrested if "At Large".
